There are now several biostimulatory fillers available and new options on the horizon. These fillers are used to address volume loss, wrinkles and sagging skin. Their added benefits on skin collagen make these some of our favourite injectable treatments.

The biostimulatory fillers available differ in how they are used, where they can be used and the onset of benefits.

These are commonly used in areas such as the cheeks, temples, jawline, and hands to restore volume and to improve overall skin texture. They work by providing a scaffolding or matrix and stimulate collagen production, which helps to improve skin elasticity and firmness over time.

When are benefits seen?

With some biostimulatory fillers visible treatment effects take time, although some benefits may be seen soon after treatment. Full benefits will usually take 6 or more months. This can be desirable for people who want a treatment that has gradual onset. This product relies on remodelling of skin and its support tissues. Biostimulatory fillers rely on a person’s production of new collagen and generally work better in younger individuals with reduced benefits seen in older age and can be affected by a person’s general health.

Our other key biostimulatory filler has a more immediate dermal filling effect, over time however the product is slowly removed by the body and replaced by new collagen which sees skin benefits evolve over this time.

How many treatments are needed and what is the duration of benefits and how often should treatment be repeated?

By stimulating collagen synthesis, these fillers can provide long-lasting results and improve the overall appearance of the treated areas. Benefits reduce over time and maintenance treatments are often utilized to maintain biostimulatory skin benefits.

Often a series of treatments is initially utilized to achieve the desired outcome

The recommended frequency of such top up treatments can vary from 6 to 24 months.
